Disaster Task Force

Hindu Aid has setup an ad-hoc Disaster Task Force (DTF) that will assemble on demand after natural disasters like earthquakes, Tsunamis, cyclones and droughts. The DTF is made up of 50 organisations that provide disaster relief and aid.

After the Tsunami disaster in December 2004 the DTF set up a national helpline publicised in the national media including the BBC website. The DTF coordinated the activities of different organisations from Britain who wanted to send medical aid, clothes and funds to ensure that the appropriate aid reached the appropriate people at the appropriate time.

The DTF helpline received around 200 calls a day immediately after the Tsunami. Offers of help poured in from different parts of Britain and were coordinated and directed to organisations that specialised in different forms of aid.
